‘The Final Countdown’ – a Working Time Directive exhibition by National Workforce Projects – took place on 2nd July 2008 at the ExCel Exhibition Centre in London’s Docklands.
The event was attended by approximately 250 delegates from across the NHS, all seeking to prepare for the fast-approaching 2009 WTD deadline. With little over a year until the maximum weekly working hours for junior doctors falls to 48, the WTD exhibition gave a fully interactive experience to help delegates assess the forthcoming impact of the 2009 changes, plus illustrate the support available and provide best practice examples.
The event housed 12 Interactive Exhibition Areas (IEAs), each of these delivering a programme of interactive workshops and seminars on a particular topic. Zircadian’s Managing Director, Dr Henry Carleton was invited as an expert in the field, to deliver a workshop in the Rota Design IEA. During the session he gave a presentation on electronic rota management and rostering with MRM-Live, for delegates needing support with creating WTD compliant rotas. Other IEA sessions were delivered by contributors including the Royal Colleges, and the BMA.
Throughout the day Zircadian staff gave popular demonstrations of the MRM-Live software at their stand in the main exhibition hall. Dr Simon Eccles, who is now Zircadian’s Non-executive Director, was one of the four panelists on the podium for the event’s lively, closing Q&A session.
