States of Jersey Health & Social Care has selected Zircadian’s e-Rota and e-Monitor solutions to manage and monitor junior doctors’ hours. Although not part of the NHS, States of Jersey takes junior doctors from the South Coast / Wessex Deanery posted to the island’s hospital on training placements, and therefore must comply with the New Deal. Zircadian’s e-Rota and e-Monitor will cover all junior doctors working at the health authority. As well as providing support for the software systems, Zircadian will also provide help and guidance with rota building and expert consultancy for interpretation of and compliance with New Deal and EWTD regulations.

 

Melanie Grandfield, who was HR and Medical Staffing Manager at States of Jersey during the implementation commented, “We wanted an electronic system that would be easier to use for staff and doctors alike, that would provide us with more information, and enable us to manage junior doctors’ hours more efficiently. Zircadian provides systems to over 140 other NHS trusts and comes highly recommended.”

The Zircadian system replaces a totally manual, paper-based system, and is used by the HR and medical staffing team as well as the junior doctors themselves during twice yearly monitoring. Junior doctors who have previously used the Zircadian system at other trusts during their training are able to log into the system using their original log-in details, saving time and making it easier for them to use.

 

Melanie Grandfield added, “Being able to comply with the New Deal and EWTD regulations is a major benefit to States of Jersey Health and Social Care. However, simply having an easy to use system that is robust and provides so much useful information has saved us a lot of time. In fact, I can’t imagine how the authority managed without Zircadian, it gives that extra insight that is just impossible to achieve with a paper-based system.”

 

Brian Jones who has recently joined the team at States of Jersey was pleased to see that the Health Authority had purchased e-Rota and e-Monitor having had prior operational experience of Zircadian's solutions, including e-Rota and the consultant job planning system e-JobPlan, at a number of other UK trusts.
