Executive Directors
“When I joined the South Thames Regional Action Team in 1999 as Junior Doctors’ Adviser, it was immediately apparent that trusts required professional IT solutions to deal with the challenges posed by the New Deal and Working Time Directive. Now, eight years on, I feel proud and confident that Zircadian is helping the NHS meet these challenges, and many others, head-on.”
Dr Henry Carleton, Managing Director
“Zircadian is rightly proud of its significant role in promoting safer working lives for junior doctors during the last eight years. Through our commitment to developing systems that ease the administrative workload, by replacing paper with technology and providing better information, I feel certain we will continue to improve the working lives of all hospital doctors.”
Dr Angus MacDougall, Director
Non-Executive Director
Simon became Non-executive Director of Zircadian in August 2008. He is Medical Director for the National Programme for IT in the NHS, as well as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Homerton University Hospital in London; Clinical Advisor to the NHS National Workforce Project (tackling the impact of the European Working Time Directive in 2009), and Medical Advisor to the Hospital at Night project which is now being implemented nationally.
Simon is interested in plain-speaking communication; making sure clinicians, managers and planners are all using the same routine information to improve care for patients, and in helping clinicians have ownership of improvements brought about by better health informatics.

Zircadian was established in November 2000 with the intention of providing NHS trusts with professional, medical HR software and excellent levels of support.
The company’s first product RotaWorks, a junior doctor rota management system, was and continues to be a huge success. RotaWorks has now become MRM-Live and is being used by 109 NHS trusts and five SHAs. More than 1,000 users log on to MRM-Live every day.
Since its beginning Zircadian has expanded and diversified rapidly to become the leading provider of software and consultancy services for managing all hospital doctors in the NHS. Its second core software system, MyJobPlan, has fast become the premier choice for online consultant job planning, and has been chosen by 50 trusts to date.
Zircadian continues to be the only supplier of web-based medical staffing software with helpdesk support included. The company is based in Wimbledon and has 34 permanent staff.
